Late last night, Elliot and I finally shared our news with everyone! We told some family friends in person, my mom called all of her friends and shared the news, and then we sent out a mass email to all the rest of our friends and family! We uploaded some pictures to Snapfish and sent the invitation to view our photos to everyone. We’ve gotten so many wonderful emails and calls in response to our note, and we are just so excited to finally be able to share this!
Law School Reunion
This weekend, Elliot and I went to NY for my law school reunion! It was so amazing to see everyone again. I stayed with one of my best friends, Tami, who lives up in NY. The car ride up was tough – lots of nausea for me. On Saturday, we walked her daughter Abbi to dance class, then went for bagels. I thought I would be sick before I got any food in my system! About 2 hrs later, we picked up Abbi, and she was ready to eat lunch. Luckily, so was I! So, we went for pizza. Over lunch, Tami asked me about our plans for having children. . . . and I told her that we are expecting! I was so excited to share the news with her. We went shopping for some clothes for her at Ann Taylor Loft, then we went back to her place. She then dug out all of her maternity clothes and gave them to me – I hit PAYDIRT!! Her clothes are perfect, and it will be such a help to have all of them to wear.
That evening, I got ready for my reunion, but I felt absolutely huge – I was sure I was showing. I tried hiding all night behind a shawl, and luckily no one said anything. I’m sure they were thinking “wow, did she get HUGE since law school!” I was dying to tell everyone, but it just wasn’t the best timing. Anyway, I had an amazing time, although I was exhausted and cramping by the end of the night.
The next morning, we had arranged to meet all of Elliot’s family – first to celebrate his nephew Ethan’s birthday and second to share the news. We first met his parents along with Daniel, Jody and Ethan. When we shared the news, they said they hoped that was why we wanted to gather everyone together. They were thrilled for us, too.
That afternoon, we started back home, and stopped off to visit Elliot’s other brother – Steven and Jodi and their children Melissa, Brian and Stephanie. Again, it took Elliot about 1 hour to share the news, but then they said they could tell just by looking at me. Everyone was truly thrilled for us, and I think it was great to finally share the news! We went out to dinner before driving back home.
Mother’s Day
Today was my first Mother’s Day that I could kind of join in the celebration, too! It was so amazing to think this time next year I will be a mother. We all went over to my parents’ house (me, Elliot, Jeremy, Jen, and my two nieces). Elliot & I cooked brunch for everyone. We made omelettes, waffles, home fries – it was a fantastic meal. We also decided to share our good news with Jeremy and Jen.
This time, I decided to take a different approach from the cake. I bought a shirt for my dog (and I never put clothing on my dog!), and put the words “BIG SIS” on the back of it. I slipped it on the dog while we were making breakfast, then went into the other room where everyone was sitting with her. Jen, saw it first, and totally got it right away. Apparently, my brother was being dense . . . Jen had to explain the shirt to him! They were thrilled for us. I felt badly, because I had just seen Jen on Wednesday, and had kind of misled her about our efforts to get pregnant. Elliot had threatened me if I shared the news when he wasn’t there. Luckily, she forgave me!
The rest of the day was fantastic – we took my nieces to the park and they road the carousel and took a train ride. All in all, it was a perfect day.
Sharing the News!
Tonight we couldn’t wait any longer, so we decided to share the news with my parents! Okay – I’ll be honest – I couldn’t wait any longer. I called my mom this afternoon and told her we had just picked up her Mother’s Day gift and were so excited and wanted to give it to her. Since I love to make and decorate cakes, I decided it would be best to share the news with a cake.
Here is my cake:
I slowly brought it out of the container, and unveiled it. My mom looked at it and asked “is that a bathing suit? Are you sending us on another trip? 12-29-08 – are we leaving for vacation that day?” I couldn’t believe my parents didn’t understand! I think my mom even asked if I made the person in the bathing suit fat to make her feel better (she doesn’t realize that she isn’t even close to fat)!! Luckily, I had a bag of goodies for my mom, too – a pic of the u/s in a frame, a digital HPT that said pregnant, and a shirt that said Grandma on it. Once they started pulling those out, they realized what we were saying, and they were overjoyed! It was so nice to finally be able to share the news – it just made the whole thing seem a little more real.
Still Can’t Believe It Is True!
So . . . today I’m 4 weeks 5 days pregnant. My due date is December 29, 2008. I can’t believe it is still true! I woke up again and took my last home pregnancy test (still positive) and I tried out the new First Response Digital Gold test just so I could see the “+YES.” Now I have to try and relax and believe it will all be okay. I want this so much . . . I’m just so excited and hope this little baby sticks!
Last night I went to my friend Niki’s house to finish decorating cookies for a fundraiser. I was cramping and so sore, but I didn’t want to give her any sense that I might be pregnant. I sure hope all the cramping is normal! I’m DYING to tell my parents, but Elliot & I agreed to wait until after the first ultrasound on May 6. I’m thinking of telling them on Mother’s Day and giving them a “pregnancy belly” cake that says something like Expecting new arrival on 12/29. Elliot is worried other people will see, so I have some convincing to do.
I just hope my betas double on Monday and Wednesday and that we see a heartbeat on May 6!
